DescriptionCARB INTAKE MANIFOLD. GT200 BV200 BV250 WITH CARBS (NO GASKET REQ'D) It's been a few years since the GT200 and Piaggio BV200 were available (2004-2009) and first set out on the road. We're starting to see more and more cracked carburetor intake manifolds and air leaking on the seal to the cylinder head. A cracked or loose manifold can cause an "air leak", resulting in a motor that runs hotter than it should. The original style 842734 USA intake manifold with three brass ports is no longer available.

Intake manifold used on vintage vespa smallframes when using a 19/19 carburettor. Found stock on 125 Primavera, ET3, and 100 Sport. Not used on 1966 125cc Smallframe.
These values are affected by intake port lenght and the cutaway on the crank lobe. Intake port and crank cutaway can be modified mostly only one way: In addition to more port surface area, opening up the intake port allows the port to stay open longer and intake timing ATDC increases. Extending the crankshaft cutaway allows the intake port to open sooner, which adds to intake timing BTDC. Pinasco crank has the 7mm longer cutout for intake compared to stock crank which means the intake opens 98 degrees BTDC instead of stock 88 degrees. Didn't find really much info with images on smallframe rotary intake porting so here goes one.

So I noticed that the intake manifold of my 1999 Vespa ET2 50 (C16000) has a lot of microcracks and gets oily. So i wanted to replace it but something baffles me even before I start doing the job.The intake manifold seems to be mounted with two screws. Is there some sort of gasket underneath which I should replace as well?I appreciate your helpThanks!

OK, so we all know that cutting the crank to increase intake duration is important for a fast Vespa build, but I never really see people posting specific numbers. It seems like one of the nice things about rotary induction is that you can get usable intake timing numbers just using a degree wheel, without doing a port map and calculating blowdown and all that stuff (which I will admit I am still working to understand.) vespa-ciao.nl suggests setting the intake to open at 134*BTDC and close at 56*ATDC (http://vespa-ciao.nl/page.php?id=187). Their grind looks relatively mild and I've seen pictures of waaay more aggressive ones, especially with respect to when the port opens. I have to believe that at least some of the people who are doing this aren't just hacking at their crank trial-and-error, and have done some timing calculations and experimentation.
