The introduction of the Vespa to the UK has been subject to a fair amount of sanitisation. The reality was that, despite their fairly impressive factory and history, Douglas were completely broke. The Italians gave Douglas not only the UK market but also large areas of the globe covered by Commonwealth countries e.g. Clearly Piaggio were expecting big-scale production from Douglas. At the end of the day you can’t blame Douglas for using every trick to keep their factories busy.

A bolt on 110cc kit, upgraded carb and polini banana box, say will certainly give it some pep over where it is now. The v90 will be on 6v electrics too with points, so later, the route would be to upgrade to 12v electronic ignition. Chip away it and you will learn a lot from the peeps on here for your next project.

Under an agreement signed in 1961, Piaggio and Douglas Aircraft developed the PD-808 for military and commercial use. The aircraft was designed at Douglas and constructed by Piaggio. Taking to the air for the first time in 1964, the PD-808 was powered by Bristol Siddeley Viper turbojets mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage. Accommodations provided for a crew of one or two, five passengers in individual seats, bar, toilet, and baggage space.
