Though it was a departure from the earlier G.S., it was similar in design to the contemporary Vespa 150. It was physically larger than the Vespa 150. 150 and the two-piece case design of the Vespa 150. In terms of the cases, they were altered to make them similar to those on the Vespa 150. Since the motor design is essentially unique to the 160, many motor parts are very difficult to source.
It's not about the quality of the oil,is about the percentage of oil in the mix. Was a while ago now bu I'm sure we tan SS200s (welded Rally pistons) at 2% using outboard motor oil and they were good. On the barrel carb models the mix is further away from these bearings and as such Vespa added more oil. Nowadays with modern fancy oil you can get away with less in the mix and the bearings will still be lubricated.That's what i understand anyway. There were only 12,749 of these made in 1964 and are very difficult to find especially in this condition. The Scooter looks to be about 95% complete with most of it's original parts and they are in good condition. The scooter is the original white body but looks to have been poorly repainted some time ago. The body appears to be original and in great and straight condition. The motor appears to be complete and original.
The US horn was much less blingy - this is the proper horn for the US model. ( and thus needed no headset key )There's some debate about the white versus aluminum colored fork downtube, as to what color it was. I would try the TCP Global / Auto Color Library.When I needed a pint of the original Grigio Ametista color for my 1964 Vespa VNB, I called them and they had the original paint chip for my color and it was a perfect match. When I restored my 1962 Triumph TR4, I also ordered the paint thru them and it was a perfect match to the original paint up behind the dash board.My scooter had been sitting in a garage for nearly 50 years, so the paint was not faded. This garage find scooter was only run for 2 or 3 years when the owner passed away and it was stored away until I bought it 2 years ago with 1761 original miles.Auto Color Library website show the chips for most cars, but for some reason they do not have the color chips posted for Vespa scooters, but they do have them.You can get their phone number or email address at - http://www.autocolorlibrary In addition to the color they will want to know what type paint you are looking for, Acrylic Lacquer, Acrylic Enamel, or one of the newer paints. I got Acrylic Lacquer for my 64 and the color and finish were a perfect match for airbrush touch-ups after using rubbing compound and polish.
