We analysed the early changes in the resistance to ROS (RROS) as a function of the vital prognosis at Day 15 together with other prognostic markers. Finally vasospasm which is often noted during the early hours after SAH is also potentially influenced by oxidative stress [13]. Blood sampling had been performed on day 1 (D1), day 5 (D5) and day 10 (D10) after SAH onset. For these patients’ resistance to oxidative stress appears to be non-significantly greater at D1 (p <0.06) but significantly lower at D10 than for alive patients, although remaining greater than for the healthy controls. As noted in a previous study [7] there seems to be 2 categories of patients according to their D1 RROS and the number of severe ROS-generating diseases.
This chapter examines changes in place-making for older adults since the turn of the 19th to 20th century to today. Four periods or eras are presented: total institution, prosthetic environment, assisted living/memory care, and the current era of aging in place and age-friendly communities. Each of these eras possessed or possesses characteristic orientations of the environment for older adults, namely contain, maintain, sustain, and pertain, respectively. Design approaches to places for older adults are seen as evolving in relation to these working assumptions about aging as a phenomenon—often informed by research and advocacy—coupled with changes in policy and the zeitgeist found in architectural and urban design. The chapter concludes with thoughts on where this current era of aging in place and age-friendly environments is likely to go over the coming decades, including integration of digital technology, ‘precision environments’ integrated into neighborhoods, and a process turn in understanding places for older adults.
