The Vespa SS90 is much sought after by collectors due to its extreme rarity, just over 5000 were made between 1965 and 1971, and most of these have been lost to the ravages of rust, time, and overly ambitious riders. Vespa is Italian for “wasp”, a well-chosen name for a company that started out making buzzy little two-stroke scooters in 1946. The two-stroke 88.5 cc engine used in the Super Sprint is a single-cylinder, air-cooled unit with a bore/stroke of 47/51 mm and an 8.7:1 compression ratio. The original 1966 Vespa SS90 you see here was imported into the US from Italy and subject to a full nut and bolt restoration at the hands of Joe Casola – the founder of Saint Cycle Works based in Tennessee. The completed SS90 is valued somewhere in the region of $15,000 USD due to its rarity and originality – and it’s now shipped to its new owner.
1966 Vespa SS90 Restoration Perfect Restoration in original color "Blue Pavone". No aftermarket parts were used. Each original part was hand restored in-house including front and rear dampeners.
The Vespa SS90 made between 1965 and 1971 is much sought after by collectors due to its extreme rarity and only just over 5000 were produced. Registered new new on August 15th 1966 by Andre Baldet (the famous Moto Baldet dealership), Northampton it was sold on August 22nd 1966 to a David Jakeman. It was discovered for our vendors by the late Bill Drake the legendary Vespa expert in a loft in Southampton. The engine was re-commissioned using the original components or NOS and original parts by Vespa engine expert Matthew Phillips. It is seldom that this most rare and sought after Vespa model with exceptional detailed history and originality comes around.
Also have holes at front under seat for dummy tank (at least mine does). For some reason the dummy tank was ditched. The big differance is the frame number. My engine number which is stamped the same as all of them dates my one as a 69 ss90. Somewhere on here is a thread with way better detail than this, but basically the big differance is that frame number.

The Super Sport 90 is very rare, 5300 units manufactured and less than half of them surviving. This is one for the collector or the investor. We've seen the price of this model increase more than any other Vespa. Yes, the price is high, but there is a market for these. This particular scooter has been fully restored to original spec so is ready to last another 50+ years.
