There are two fundamental blunders that plague a Vespa scooter. Since spare parts are not available in the local market, one has no choice.There is always a shortage of spare parts, even with authorized service centers. I have had to wait for days together for getting basic spare parts such as air filter elements, petrol cock, accelerator cables, etc. So every time I take the bike there, they make me change some or the other spare parts. Obviously, if there are hardly any Vespa scooters on the road, who is going to buy those many spare parts?

Vespa India adds upmarket VX, other modelsPiaggio’s Indian subsidiary, Piaggio Vehicles Private Ltd. NEW DELHI: Italian automaker Piaggio launched in India its high-end Vespa VX , the most expensive scooter in the country on July 4 and said it would drive in more premium segment two-wheelers soon.The 125cc Vespa VX, priced at Rs 71,380 (ex-showroom Delhi), has premium features like front disc brake and tubeless tyres. Until now, Piaggio Vehicles, the automaker's wholly-owned Indian unit, was selling only one scooter model in the country, Vespa LX.Piaggio, which has already launched its Moto Guzzi and Aprilia range of super bikes, is now eyeing the niche segment in India. "We are here to create awareness for the top end and would subsequently bring a range of sports bikes and scooters to India," Ravi Chopra, Piaggio Vehicles India's CMD, told ET.The company, which has a production capacity of 150,000 units, plans to launch its third scooter in India later this year. Chopra did not give any details about its features but said it will not compete with the products of Honda , Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp , the three main players in the three-million strong Indian scooter market. "We want to concentrate on the niche end to cash in on our European brand equity of a premium two-wheeler company," Chopra said.
